St Leonards residents welcome road repairs

December 12, 2018 BY

REGIONAL Roads Victoria is working closely with the City of Greater Geelong on plans to improve an unsealed parking area on Murradoc Road at St Leonards.

Chief regional roads officer Paul Northey said they were currently in the process of finalising designs with the council to ensure all works were properly integrated so they could deliver the best outcome for the local community.

Regional Roads Victoria recently met with representatives from the St Leonards Beautification Committee to provide an update on progress on the project to seal the parking area and install kerb and channel outside shops near the intersection of Murradoc Road and Blanche Street.

“We’re working closely/in partnership with Council to finalise an integrated design for the road surface, and new kerb and channel,” Mr Northey said. “Once those works are complete, we will then undertake the more extensive asphalting and sealing works along Murradoc Road to provide drivers with a smoother and safer surface.

“It is expected this project will be delivered before the end of the financial year.

“We will keep the community updated as the project progresses through each stage.”

Mr Northey said in addition, RRV would carry out asphalt repairs to the intersection of Murradoc Road and Portarlington-Queenscliff Road, and asphalting works on Murradoc Road west of Bluff Road.

St Leonards Beautification Committee Convenor Denis O’Bryan welcomed the news.

“We now have the designs, half the money, the contractor and a commitment for early completion,” Mr O’Bryan said.

“For St Leonards ratepayers, this job will finally mean a cure for one of our very public, long-overdue open wounds and will be a big return for a minor cost..”

Meanwhile, Mr O’Bryan said he wanted to thank Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville for her strong and continuing support and VicRoads for their generous offer.
