LOCAL Lions are seeking donations of new and used postage stamps, philatelic material and unwanted collections to help support children affected by cerebral palsy.

From 2018 to 2020, Lions across Australia had a great two years with stamps, and during that time raised $101,000 for the Australian Lions Children’s Mobility Foundation to purchase walking frames.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and some auctions being cancelled, Lions project organisers still had a wonderful amount of more than $45,000 in the bank with one auction to go.

The Lions Club of Ocean Grove Barwon Heads said this outstanding result could only happen due to the great support the clubs received from their communities.

The Australian Lions Children’s Mobility Foundation seeks to empower children who cannot walk unassisted to reach their potential.

It funds walking devices that get kids out of their wheelchairs and onto their feet so that they are able to walk, explore, play, work and socialise.

This makes them stronger and healthier – physically, emotionally and mentally.

Meanwhile, local Lions are also looking for donations of spectacles that are no longer being used for their Lions Recycle for Sight program.

Throughout the year, Lions collect used spectacles and deliver them to the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centre in Queensland.

At the centre, volunteers clean, sort by prescription strength and package the glasses. Most of the recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in developing countries where they will have the greatest impact.

Spectacles can be placed in the Lions box in the foyer of Ocean Grove Library.

Also, stamps can be sent to Lions Club of Ocean Grove Barwon Heads, PO Box 129, Ocean Grove VIC 3226.

It helps if you clip around the used stamps, leaving no less than 3mm and no more than 6mm around the stamp.

Alternately, to arrange a pick-up or drop-off send the Lions a message via their Facebook page “Lions Club of Ocean Grove Barwon Heads”.
