Star of the Sea and Ocean Mist to get flagpoles
STAR of the Sea Village and Ocean Mist Aged Care will both receive a flagpole to fly the Australian flag on days of commemoration under the federal government’s Saluting their Service Commemorative Grants Program.
Making the announcement last week ahead of Anzac Day, Corangamite federal member Sarah Henderson said assisting local organisations, such as schools and aged care facilities, to install flagpoles ensured the Australian flag can be used prominently on important days of commemoration.
Ms Henderson said the entire community was especially mindful in the lead up to Anzac Day of the ways in which we commemorate Australian service men and women.
“Saluting their Service is an Australian Government initiative which honours service in wars, conflicts and peace operations, and promotes appreciation and understanding of the role that those who served have played in shaping the nation.
“I am pleased that these grants, provided to the Torquay RSL Sub Branch, will allow the purchase and installation of flagpoles for future use.
“I congratulate the work of local RSL clubs who mobilise their volunteers to assist organisations, including schools and aged care facilities with commemorative events.”
The Torquay RSL Sub Branch led commemorative services at both Star of the Sea and Ocean Mist Aged Care facilities this week.
