Star of the Sea Village opens its doors

RESIDENTS and visitors to the Star of the Sea Village’s open day were entertained by Australian music legend Mike Brady.

The Torquay 96-bed aged care residence run by Villa Maria Catholic Homes opened its doors to the public last week, putting on lunch, tours and entertainment from Mr Brady and 3AW’s Pat Panetta and Amanda Brocklebank.

The radio personalities interviewed residents and ran games of Celebrity Head (two of the celebrities in question were Barnaby Joyce and Mike Brady himself).

Star of the Sea Village resident Gordon McComb, who has lived in the residence for about three years, happened to be interviewed on his birthday.

“We mix socially in all sorts of activities: Happy Hour – or Happy Hours – there’s walking groups, billiards, croquet, pool exercises,” he said.

“We had an arts exhibition not so long ago, to raise money for the surf club, and that was very successful.”

Mr Brady entertained the crowd with songs and stories, including a rendition of his signature tune, “Up There Cazaly”, which he estimated he performs about 300 times a year.
