Stay connected online with U3A

THE process of aging for many retired and semi-retired people can sometimes be an isolating experience in a world where communication is often online.

Now that the internet and technology has emerged as a major communication tool, older Australians with limited technology skills can feel left behind.

U3A SurfCoast is excited to announce that it has now registered with “Be Connected”, an Australian government initiative designed to increase the confidence, skills and online safety for older Australians when they use the internet and online technology.

U3A SurfCoast will now offer small group or oneon- one training covering the basics of using computers and digital services, online shopping, socialising online and staying safe when using technology.

U3A SurfCoast also continues to offer a range of other courses and activities for term three, beginning on July 23.

Its popular “Conversations in History” series will continue and a new course on “Cryptic Crosswords will begin.

A highlight of the term will be a “Conversation” between Shokoofeh Azar, author of The Enlightenment of the Greengage Tree and U3A president John Bartlett at Lions Village, 12-16 Kooringa Place Torquay on August 31.

This event will be open to the public and nonmembers are asked to donate a gold coin to a local charity to be announced, Shokoofeh Azar’s novel was recently short-listed for the prestigious Stella award.
