A PET and animal photographer based in Ocean Grove has received praise for his unique, creative and sometimes humorous images.
Steven Penman, from Steven Penman Photography, has had some recent success at the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) Victorian State awards.
Steven took home three silver awards, and to top it off was one of three finalists for the Emerging Photographer of the Year.
“I was quite blown away by how well they went,” Steven said.
“I entered two images that would invoke some humour and another image of a bull that would display strength, power and impact and I think what I was communicating to the judges came across well.”
Steven, who is originally from Scotland but has been in Australia for 14 years now, said he aimed to create images that were not just run of the mill shoot and burn shots.
“I like to plan my shots with a vision in mind and then I think about how I am going to execute,” he said.
“It makes for an image that is unique and that people want to have printed and displayed. “There’s no better feeling than having a vision and making it come to life on paper.”
The national level awards will take place on August 10 and 12 in Sydney.
“I have made some minor revisions to my images based on some expert feedback from the judging so fingers crossed they go even better at national level.”
