Storms hit the Bellarine

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms across parts of the Bellarine this evening.

Already in Clifton Springs there has been a request for assistance due to flooding.

The BoM said much of the Bellarine and Geelong was likely to be impacted.

“The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 2:20 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Geelong City, Ocean Grove and central parts of Port Phillip Bay. These thunderstorms are moving towards the southeast.

“They are forecast to affect Frankston, Mornington and Queenscliff by 2:50 pm and Hastings, Rosebud and Sorrento by 3:20 pm. Heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones are likely.”

It has also been reported that parts of Geelong have experienced hail storms.
