A STUNNING new mural has popped up at Ocean Grove’s beloved Bookgrove store and is already gaining plenty of attention from the local community.

Last week, the 2023 ABIA Bookshop of the Year finalist unveiled a captivating bookshelf themed mural adorning its exterior walls.

The vibrant mural was completed by local artist/school teacher Cameron Plapp and a group of Year 6 students from Nazareth Catholic Primary School in Grovedale.

Across a three-week period, Mr Plapp and the students dedicated their after-school hours to working in small teams to create the visually appealing and colourful mural which captures the essence of Bookgrove’s literary world.

At the mural’s grand unveiling, students were proud to celebrate the incredible achievement and the opportunity to have their artwork on public display.

Bookgrove owner Stacey Moore said the new bookshelf mural stands as a testament to artistic collaboration, community support, and the boundless potential of young talents.

“The mural not only enhances the aesthetic charm of Ocean Grove, but also serves as a source of inspiration for all who pass by.

“It was a fantastic way to jazz up and beautify the bookstore’s exterior and also showcase some of the colourful and ocean inspired books we have in store.

“The mural ultimately showcases to our local community and budding young artists that art is valuable and can provide some fantastic opportunities.

“It’s already gained quite a bit of attention and the local businesses and community have been full of praise for our new installation.”
