THE Flying Brick Bellarine Sunset Run is close to being a full sell-out, with more than 1,200 runners and walkers slated to take part in today’s (Saturday, February 10) fun community event.

The ninth annual running classic will take place on the coastal trail between Portarlington and St Leonards and feature three main events – the Active Feet Half Marathon (21km), the Steigen 10km run and the Bully Buster 4km run.

The run will take place between Portarlington and St Leonards.

All events will start from 5pm onwards.

Bellarine Sunset Run event manager Dion Milne said excitement was high heading into today’s event.

“We are expecting sell-out numbers again this year, which is just terrific.

“We’ve generally sold out most of our events, but certainly not as early. We sold the 21km a month out, and the 10km a fortnight ago.

“It’s nice to have that admin part of it all tucked away.

“If the 4km ends up filling up, then we are looking at record breaking entries of over 1,350.”

Mr Milne said all three events would feature both elite athletes and first-time runners of all ages.

“We’ve got some pretty strong Victorian Athletics cross country athletes entered in the 21km and the 10km.

“We always have high-end talent, but we do also have a particular focus on it being low-profile and inclusive for everyone.

“We will have different waves for different skill levels. Therefore, everyone will feel like they are part of the race, even if they want to go a bit slower.”
