UP TO 2,000 people are expected to roll out their mats at GMHBA Stadium for a sunrise yoga session later this year in support of World Mental Health Day.

Now in its second year, the Serenity in the Stadium event aims to spread awareness about the importance of mental wellbeing, linking the benefits of physical activity with improved mental health, and provide an opportunity for the community to share in the joy of movement and mindfulness.

This year’s event will be held on Sunday, October 19 and will again be hosted by mental health literacy organisation Ready The Play in collaboration with community participation project Active Geelong.

All proceeds from Serenity in the Stadium will support the ongoing work of both organisations.

Read The Play general manager Michelle Gerdtz said the event offers people an inclusive and uplifting way to mark World Mental Health Day (October 10), with the yoga session’s timing, on a Sunday, intended to allow for greater community participation.

“Last year’s event showed us the power of community connection through movement,” she said.

“This year, we’re building on that momentum to create something even more meaningful and impactful.
