Support for young families in growing region
LOCAL MP Libby Coker has welcomed new lives to the rapidly growing region during a Baby Expo held in Ocean Grove.
Hosted by Ms Coker, the event took place last week with Shadow Minister for Early Childhood Education and Development Amanda Rishworth and Geelong Mums general manager Julia Roache joining the celebration held at the Shell Road Pavilion, with up to 50 guests in attendance.
“We are such a rapidly growing region and so, it’s important we support our young families, and give them access to support services, connect them to their community and importantly, provide an opportunity to celebrate the birth of a newborn baby,” Ms Coker said.
Up to 20 stalls were set up to provide advice and access to a range of health and maternal childcare services as well discussing breastfeeding, sleep and nutrition.
Families could also engage with face painting, a photo booth, toy library and local apparel brands.
A highlight of the event included the ceremony where 30 young families from the region were presented with certificates by Ms Rishworth and Ms Coker.
“The Expo was a time for celebrating the arrival of new babies into our region,” Ms Coker said.
“It is a time of joy, but it can also be a time when a young family can be anxious and financially stressed.
“I want young families to know we are here for them.”
