NEW vehicles and lifesaving gear is on the way for the Bellarine’s emergency services volunteers, as part of the Victorian government’s largest round of funding through its Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP).

Bellarine MP Alison Marchant last week announced the local recipients of this year’s program, which will deliver more than $30 million statewide to support CFA brigades, SES units, Life Saving Victoria clubs and other emergency services organisations.

Wallington CFA will receive $71,000 for a new field command vehicle, while Ocean Grove CFA has secured $69,000 to purchase a breathing apparatus support vehicle.

Local surf lifesaving clubs will also benefit, with Ocean Grove receiving $42,000 for new rescue tubes, rescue boards and automatic defibrillators, and Point Lonsdale receiving $21,000 for a new inflatable rescue boat and rescue boards.

The Barwon Heads 13th Beach Surf Life Saving Club has also been awarded $26,000, which will be used to purchase a new beach patrol trailer and IRB Thundercat, while Coast Watch Radio and Marine Rescue Squad has been allocated $44,000 for a new Isuzu 4×4 vehicle to assist with marine response.

Ms Marchant said the funding would support volunteers who play a critical role in keeping the region safe.

“Congratulations to all the volunteer groups in Bellarine receiving grants,” she said.

“The Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program is an important annual program providing essential support to our local volunteers, ensuring their equipment and facilities are kept up to date and enabling them to continue their tireless work keeping our region safe.”

VESEP provides grants to help volunteer emergency groups purchase essential equipment and upgrade facilities, with the government matching every $2 for each $1 raised locally.
