Sustainable living the focus of upcoming event
THE countdown to the first Transition Towns Queenscliffe Sustainable Living Show is on.
The Sustainable Living Show, designed to be a onestop shop for smart, simple, sustainable living solutions, is set to take place at the Queenscliff Community Hall (formerly known as the Senior Citizen’s Hall) on Saturday March 23.
This volunteer-organised event will include displays, demonstrations, quick talks and market stalls, all based on sustainability and sustainable practices.
Event organisers are encouraging the community to bring along the following items for recycling collection:
READING glasses and sunglasses, these items will be given to local charity for redistribution overseas. BATTERIES – button only.
TOOTHBRUSHES and toothpaste tubes, these items will be made into new products such as park benches, picnic tables and playground equipment; and MOBILE phones.
In return for one of above items, event-goers will receive a free glass storage jar to replace an existing plastic container in their pantry.
Remember to recycle the replaced plastic container in your yellow-top bin.
On the day, people can also pick up a free bag of coffee grounds, along with some advice on how to use them in the garden to promote growth and soil health.
Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor Bob Merriman commended the hard work and dedication of the event organisers and highlighted the importance of this event.
“The Sustainable Living Show brings the vital message of sustainability to the forefront of our community’s consciousness,” Cr Merriman said.
“It provides a great opportunity to gain expert advice before taking the first step, or the next step in your sustainability journey.”
This event is plastic bag free and remember to bring along your own water bottle.
There will be no food or beverages available at the event, however, patrons are invited to enjoy the hospitality of nearby local cafes for coffee and lunch. Entry is covered by a gold coin donation, and there is no need to book.
The event will run from 10am to 4pm. For more information contact the Borough of Queenscliffe on 5258 1377.
