BANCOORA SLSC members and affiliates have raised their glasses to six decades of surf education and community service at a special 60-year anniversary celebration at the weekend.

More than 80 people gathered on Saturday to celebrate the club’s milestone, honouring past and present members that have assisted the club to get to where it is today.

To celebrate the occasion, the club ran a Q and A session with their first Bronze Medallion members and provided guests with food and drink specials throughout the evening.

Bancoora SLSC president Lisa Happ said the event was a milestone for the club and a fantastic opportunity to re-engage club members of the past 60 years.

“It was really good to see everyone having such a great time and mingling to celebrate the big occasion.

“We were privileged to have three of our first four Bronze Medallion members in Ken Galloway, Bruce Murrell and Peter Freddi attend the event and talk about the rich history of the club.

“Both members young and old supported the event really well… we felt it was very significant to finally get our members back to recount some of the great history of the club, while also looking forward to what is an exciting future.”

Mrs Happ said the next step in recounting the club’s six-decade history will be trying to secure a grant to make a history book.

She also expressed her excitement for the new clubhouse and was hopeful that it would be ready for their next major anniversary.

“It’s super exciting and will no doubt help to further enhance our club moving forward.

“We are hopeful the works on the new base will begin within the next year.”
