Swimmers to make a splash at Rip View Swim Classic
POINT Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club’s biggest annual fundraising event will return next month for its 36th edition.
The Rip View Swim Classic will take place on January 3, 2025 and bring more than 1,000 swimmers to the Bellarine.
The open water swim will see athletes take on a unique stretched-out layout following the curve of Lonsdale Bay inside the head of Port Phillip Bay.
Three course lengths will be on offer to competitors: the short course 600m dash, the 1.4km main event and the 3.8km marathon.
Rip View Swim Classic director Murray Keeble said excitement was high heading into the event.
“We love this time of year are excited to be back on in 2025.
“Last year we had cracking conditions and great numbers. We hope this year will be more of the same.”
For a second straight year, the event will be part of the Great Victorian Swim Series, helping to boost the event’s reach.
“GVSS has really reinvigorated of late, and are putting up heaps of prizes and giveaways for our swimmers.
“We’ve got a trip out on the sea pilots, wetsuits, sunscreen, goggles and plenty more, which will add value to the swim.”
All swim entry fees will be injected straight back into the club’s resources.
“It means we can help to provide a safe aquatic leisure space for people who come to visit us in Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale.
“It also helps us train up our members, which is obviously super essential.”
