Switch-on date for new Leopold traffic lights looming

March 28, 2018 BY

VICROADS says it is working closely with Powercor to finalise a switch-on date for new traffic lights installed at Leopold.

Regional Director of South West Mark Koliba said the traffic lights at the intersection of Melaluka Road and Portarlington Highway would greatly improve safety for pedestrians and drivers.

“We expect the new traffic lights to be switched on soon,” Mr Koliba said.

“We are very happy to be able to deliver a much safer intersection for the local community, particularly the school children who access the bus.”

In June last year, Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville announced that the traffic lights would be operational by early 2018.

The lights come after a serious accident involving Bellarine Secondary College student Lachlan Mackinnon in 2016.

As part of the upgrade, new pedestrian lights will boost safety for students crossing the road to catch the bus from Melaluka Road and two new disability-compliant bus stops will be built on Portarlington Road.
