Tastes like home: winter festival invites locals to explore culinary delights
FOODIES are being encouraged to get out and about this winter, following the launch of this year’s Tastes of Greater Geelong program.
The month-long food and wine festival features hidden gems and perfect pairings in a showcase of the best hospitality in the region.
Celebrity chef and event ambassador Darren Purchese said the event is perfect for curing winter blues.
“Geelong’s food and beverage industry is so unique,” he siad. “It’s very special because it’s diverse, there’s lots of different cuisines here, a lot of talented people, and great producers – so this really is the place to be.
“It is winter, but we do encourage you to get out of your homes and come to this festival. Not only might you find your favourite new spot, or something that you haven’t tried before, you’ll also be supporting businesses.”
More than 70 food and wine events have been added to the mid-winter festival schedule including degustation collaborations, behind-the-scenes tours, hands on workshops and family friendly activities.
This year’s program will begin with the Geelong City Night Market on 19 June.
Little Malop Street will be transformed into a hawker-style market experience filled with local eats, music and roving entertainment.
City of Greater Geelong deputy mayor Eddy Kontelj said the festival is a great way for locals to explore their own backyard.
Whether you’re after family-friendly fun or a fine dining night out, Tastes is a fantastic way to explore our region during winter,” Cr Kontelj said.
“We’re inviting everyone to rug up, head out, and experience the incredible food, drink and hospitality our region has to offer.”
