BARWON Coast has released a tender for seven new cabins at the entrance of the Barwon Heads Caravan Park.
The project includes five two-bedroom cabins, including one DDA-compliant cabin, and two one-bedroom cabins.
Barwon Coast acting chief executive officer Paul Gangell said designs should reflect the unique coastal and cultural landscape of Barwon Heads, while incorporating innovative solutions, sustainability initiatives and ways to minimise environmental impact.
“Submissions should also demonstrate cost-effectiveness and detail how tenders will support the Local Jobs First Policy through the engagement of local suppliers, traders, contractors and procurement of Victorian goods and services.
“Designs are expected to consider both the cabins themselves and surrounding spaces, including pathways, landscaping, and safe pedestrian access for people of all abilities, with a strong focus on universal design principles.”
Submissions will be assessed against the criteria by an evaluation panel, which will then make a recommendation to the Barwon Coast Committee of Management board.
It is expected the contract for the cabins will begin in November, with bookings for the cabins to open to the public from September 2026.
The project is supported by the Regional Tourism Investment Fund, a program designed to create more jobs, support tourism businesses and attract more visitors.
“We are very thankful for the support provided through the Regional Tourism Investment Fund 2024,” Mr Gangell said.
“This funding will enhance the visitor experience, attract more people to discover our beautiful region, and strengthen our broader purpose of caring for the coast.”
Applications close on October 13.
