The Dunes Café officially opens
OCEAN Grove’s revamped The Dunes Café officially opened at the weekend, impressing customers with its great food, coffee and ocean views
The café/restaurant, which was part of the original Ocean Grove surf complex building, closed early last year as part of a million-dollar redevelopment.
Phil Emery Chair of the Barwon Coast Committee of Management said the original surf complex building was worn out from over 20 years of use by the Ocean Grove Surf Lifesaving Club and visitors to the Dunes restaurant.
“Surf club membership was booming and the facilities in the old building did not meet the needs of the club into the future,” he said.
“The Dunes Restaurant roof was leaking and required significant funding to fix as well as expensive upgrades to the kitchen were required to meet current commercial kitchen standards.”
The first sod of Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club’s new complex turned in May last year, while it was also announced that the company which operates At The Heads in Barwon Heads had been awarded a 21-year lease to operate The Dunes Café.
OGSLS Club’s new patrol tower officially opened last December, which was followed by the surf beach complex in July this year.
The Dunes Café was still completing the fit-out of its commercial kitchen then but has opened a month later.
Mr Emery said the new surf beach complex was an incredible resource for the local community and visitors to Ocean Grove Main Beach.
