The new face of dental care in Newcomb

A NEW dental clinic has opened its doors at Newcomb Central Shopping Centre, filling a longstanding gap in local dental care for the Newcomb and wider Bellarine community.

Newcomb Smiles opened in April this year, bringing a second private dental practice to an area of around 15,000 residents that has been served by just one for years, well below what’s typically needed for a community this size.

Principal dentist Dr Angus Chen said the clinic was built around giving patients more time, not less.

“We wanted to build a practice where people don’t feel rushed,” Dr Chen said. “Longer appointments mean we can properly explain what’s going on and plan treatment properly, rather than surprising someone with a big bill down the track.”

The clinic offers a full range of dental care under one roof, from routine check-ups and cleans through to root canals, crowns, implants and full mouth rehabilitation, meaning most patients won’t need to be referred elsewhere for complex treatment.

The fit-out was designed with a calm, modern feel, aimed at putting nervous patients at ease rather than adding to the stress of a dental visit.

Dr Chen is joined by associate dentist Dr Kylin Shi, who patients have praised for taking the time to explain treatment options without pressure.

Dr Chen has practised around the Gold Coast and Melbourne before settling in the Geelong region, and continues to treat patients part-time at Dove Dental in Waurn Ponds.

Families are also a focus for the new clinic, with young patients welcome from their first tooth and gentle, unhurried appointments designed to help kids feel comfortable with the dentist early on.

Newcomb Smiles is positioned inside the Newcomb Central health precinct, alongside a GP clinic, pharmacy and pathology services, giving patients the chance to handle several appointments in one trip.

The clinic also offers extended hours to suit people who can’t take time off work, open until 7pm on Thursdays and from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays.

Newcomb Smiles is a preferred provider with NIB, CBHS and smile.com.au, bulk-bills eligible children under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, and offers a 10 per cent discount for pension and seniors card holders.
