THE much-loved Lorne Pier to Pub will make a splash tomorrow (January 13) when it returns for its 44th edition.

The prestigious Lorne SLSC fundraiser will take place from 11am onwards and feature more than 7,000 recreational and elite swimmers from across the country.

The ocean swim will commence at the historic Lorne Pier, before participants embark on a 1.2km journey in the fresh water of Louttit Bay towards the foreshore where cheering crowds await their arrival.

On average, the swim takes contestants 22 minutes, with the quickest time being 10 minutes and 30 seconds.

Established athletes, media personalities and politicians are again slated to swim in the Pier to Pub or compete in the Mountain to Surf fun-run event.

Five-time world champion Lani Pallister, four-time Pier to Pub winner Hayden Cotter, 2024 Jim Wall Classic winner Archie Vernon, former premier of Victoria Ted Baillieu and former Victorian treasurer Josh Frydenberg will all be on the start line.

Race director John Takac said he couldn’t wait to see the energy in Lorne this weekend.

“The Pier to Pub and Mountain to Surf have a rich history of bringing people together, promoting fitness and highlighting the natural landscapes of Lorne,” he said.

“The heart of these events beats with the dedication of Lorne Surf Life Saving Club volunteers, who selflessly organise them. They aren’t just events on a calendar; it’s our lifeline, funding the club and empowering our vital programs for a safer coastline.

“We look forward to welcoming participants and spectators to experience the excitement and beauty that these events offer.”

All age divisions will wear different coloured caps during the race to avoid confusion.

Competitors in the main event male and female Super Fish division will take to the water at 2:45pm and 3pm respectively.
