TIA shows off its new centre

INTERESTED crowd wandered through the grounds of the Torquay Improvement Association (TIA) last month as the long-running organisation held an open day.

The event, held at the TIA’s premises on Price Street, was also the official opening of the TIA’s new building at the rear of the block, which was named after long-serving member Lesley McQuinn.

TIA secretary Lynda O’Flaherty also gave a presentation on the group’s history.

The TIA hall was built by its members in the 1890s, where it became a focal point for activities in the then-growing town of Torquay.

The spaces are heavily used by community groups from Torquay and elsewhere including dance, karate, church, singing, exercise and dancing clubs.
