Time to talk tiny in Port

December 19, 2017 BY

A PORTARLINGTON resident who believes in building a more sustainable future is looking for like-minded people to talk tiny.

Diane Roberts wants to start a group that looks into the issues surrounding building tiny houses on the Bellarine.

Tiny Houses are an affordable option to owning your own home for the intended purpose of permanent living – there is no mortgage, no personal debt and minimal stress.

“It’s really hard for people, especially the younger ones, to get into the housing market,” Ms Roberts said.

“And there is barely any public housing in Australia for people, besides unaffordable housing prices. Where are people meant to go?”

Ms Roberts said tiny houses would build a more sustainable future by cutting down on bills.

“Electricity bills are at their highest because people are building the biggest houses,” she said.

Ms Roberts said she was forming the group to investigate where on the Bellarine people could build their tiny homes, either on a trailer or slab, and what council regulations owners would face.

“Come and join a great group, exchange ideas and hopes and maybe even a new future,” she said.

Ms Roberts said she was hoping to hold the first meeting in January next year.
