Together we can feed our community
THE Give Where You Live Foundation is calling on the entire community to help make sure nobody goes hungry by supporting the 2025 Feed Geelong Appeal.
Running from Monday, October 13 to October 19, the appeal aims to raise funds to support local initiatives addressing food insecurity across the G21 region.
Latest data reveals the ongoing cost-of-living crisis is significantly increasing the number of people seeking food relief throughout the Geelong region. According to the Victorian Population Health Survey, 14 per cent of Barwon residents went without food and couldn’t afford to buy more.
Give Where You Live Foundation chief executive, Zac Lewis, stressed the importance of the Foundation’s Feed Geelong Appeal in responding to this growing need in the region. “The Give Where You Live Foundation’s Feed Geelong Appeal raises vital funds to help address food insecurity across the G21 region. Now more than ever, we need the whole community to come together to help make sure nobody goes hungry.
“Residents across our region are experiencing higher levels of food insecurity than the Victorian average. By donating to the Feed Geelong Appeal, together we can help feed our community.”
The Give Where You Live Foundation’s community partner organisations are experiencing high surges in demand.
“With the rising cost of living creating unprecedented demand for food relief, we know many of our community partners are seeing more people reaching out for support. In fact, 90 per cent of food relief agencies in the region have reported an increase in demand,” Mr Lewis said.
The Foundation’s Food for Thought research report, released in late 2023, identified cost-of-living pressures, low income and unemployment as key drivers of food insecurity.
Supporting the 2025 Feed Geelong Appeal, several corporate partners have come on board to help feed Geelong. “We’d like to thank all of our 2025 Feed Appeal Partners including Times News Group, Goop Digital, The Gordon, GSC Finance, Australian Tyre Traders, Associated Cold Tread Tyres and Bay 93.9 and K Rock 95.5 for helping fight hunger in our community,” Mr Lewis added.
