Tolhurst takes over as Borough Mayor
THE Borough of Queenscliffe has elected Cr Isabelle Tolhurst to be its new mayor, replacing Cr Ross Ebbels, and Cr Fleur Hewitt will be her deputy.
The pair were appointed to the new roles unopposed at last night’s (Wednesday, November 23) council meeting.
“I’m humbled to have the support of my fellow councillors in electing me as Mayor of the Borough of Queenscliffe,” Cr Tolhurst said.
A relative newcomer to council after being elected on a countback by the Victorian Electoral Commission in April after the death of Cr Susan Salter, Cr Tolhurst said she planned to “bring a fresh perspective, energy and pace to the role.”
Cr Hewitt said she was “thrilled” to continue in her role as deputy mayor of the borough.
“I’m looking forward to supporting our new Mayor as we continue working for our community,” she said.
The council also assigned Councillors to the following portfolios and committees during the meeting:
• Cr Fleur Hewitt – Governance and Finance
• Cr Isabelle Tolhurst – Environment
• Cr Ross Ebbels – Local Economy
• Cr Michael Grout – Heritage, Planning and Infrastructure
• Cr Donnie Grigau – Health and Wellbeing
Cr Tolhurst has an extensive background working as a media professional and has particular interest in working with young people in this space.
She also has a Master of International Relations and a Bachelor of Journalism.
