Tones and I brings pop-up show to Torquay
Australian singer-songwriter Tones and I will stop by the Torquay Hotel next week for an all-ages acoustic show as part of her We Want Tones tour series.
The musician, who is best-known for her 2019 breakout hit Dance Monkey, has been hosting intimate pop-up gigs in small towns and venues across the country for several months, travelling to locations put forward by her fans.
In a post on Facebook ahead of her pop-up performances in Townsville, Cairns and Harvey Bay in October last year, the artist said the series was motivated by a desire to hold onto her days as a busker.
“It’s like holding onto a part of something that I thought I was losing, which is that connection I made when I was a busker,” she said.
“Busking is something I would really struggle to be able to do again. So, this is my version of, you know, reconnecting with people and these shows are the epitome of connection.
“It’s more special than a show; it’s just whatever. We’re in a room together and I ask ‘What do you want me to sing?’ and then they tell me and then I do it, and we chat and that’s what it is.”
For Georgie Kovac, who has been leading the local effort to bring Tones and I to Torquay since September, the announcement is a dream come true.
She celebrated the news on her Facebook page “Tones and I – Come to Torquay” yesterday (Wednesday, January 15) with a simple post that read: “We did it”.
The Torquay show will be held outside in Torquay Hotel’s beer garden on Friday, January 24.
Doors will open at 6pm, with Tones and I set to perform at 7pm.
