Top junior boardriders crowned at final comp

TORQUAY Boardriders Club Junior club members took to the waters of Jan Juc on October 27 to participate in the final aggregate for their competition year.

The event, sponsored by KX Pilates Torquay, saw more than 50 of the Surf Coast’s up and coming young surfers battle it out to determine the season’s overall winners.

Most divisions were still hotly contested at the beginning of Aggregate 6, and the final placegetters will be announced at the TBC presentation night to be held on November 17 at the Jan Juc Cricket Club.

Although the swell for Agg 6 was small, the winds in the morning were offshore and the low tide produced some fun conditions for the groms to start the day.

Unfortunately, towards the middle of the afternoon, the winds changed and the finals were held in some tricky but still very surfable waves.

The under 14 boys and girls particularly displayed their local knowledge of Main Peak to put on a fantastic exhibition for the spectators.

Well done to all the groms who competed throughout 2018, but special mention to our division winners on Saturday.

Tully Gordon claimed victory once again in the U8s and Jarvis Barrow convincingly won the U10s. Both Gordon and Barrow have surfed consistently well all year.

The U12 girl’s final was dominated by Isla Huppatz who earned herself another first place trophy and Emily McGettigan (in her birthday week) bookended her season with a win in the U14 girls.

Nalu Belyea won the U12 boys in windy conditions, while the U14 boys was a real contest with all finalists tackling difficult surf with confidence. Securing the win with excellent surfing, however, was Willis Droomer.

The Rip Curl Most Outstanding award went to Jarvis Barrow, the Quiksilver Most Adventurous awards were won by Chloe Muscroft and Darby Gordon, Dough Bros awards to Liam Thompson and Noah Swita, and other Rip Curl encouragement awards to Jye Reid, Fletcher Swan, Geordie Pitcher and Eve Daniels.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to a great day.
