MORE than 1,000 competitors will take to the start line in what is fast becoming one of Victoria’s most picturesque triathlons.

The Barwon Heads Triathlon returns on February 22, with experienced athletes and first timers set to take on the “destination race.”

Athletes will first take on a 400m swim in the calm, protected waters on the north side of the Barwon Heads bridge, before a 14km scenic bike section along 13th Beach.

The racing will conclude with a 4km run loop from Barwon Heads towards Ocean Grove and back.

32Gi electrolyte drinks, water and fruit will be on hand to aid recovery, while 13th Beach Health Services will be there offering complimentary massages to help relieve tired legs.

Event organiser Lincoln Beckworth from SW Events said excitement was high for the 11th edition of the popular local event.

“Everything is looking really good in terms of race preparations. We’ve got a full field of 1,000 plus competitors, with more than half of them females.

“We’ve got another huge group of local participants as well as people travelling from Melbourne, country Victoria and interstate.

“About 300 of those taking to the line will also be first timers, which is just terrific and will help contribute to the amazing atmosphere on

the day.”

All race kits including timing band, swim cap and T-shirt can be collected at the event site opposite the Barwon Heads Hotel on February 21 between 4pm and 7pm or on raceday from 6.30am to 8am.
