THE Torquay Returned and Services League (RSL) held their inaugural Health and Wellbeing Expo and Forum for veterans and first responders on October 31.

Torquay RSL president Bob Tyler said the event, which was held as part of Veterans’ Health Week, made it simpler for attendees to get the help they needed.

“For a long time, we have concentrated on helping veterans and their families through the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) maze, and what services, concessions etc are available to them.

“This expo, supported by DVA, was our first attempt at bringing together those who can help veterans who may have suffered ill effects, physical or mental, from traumatic events experienced during their service.”

Exhibitors included aged care providers as well as allied and mental health professionals.

They gave brief presentations before attendees were given the chance to talk individually with them, asking questions specific to their needs.

The event also marked the first time the Torquay RSL had looked to unite veterans and first responders.
