THE Tourism Jobs Bank is getting ready to help fill local staff shortages over the summer season with the release of a new app.

The free smartphone app, created by Hi-er, is designed to amplify the promotion and distribution of job vacancies across the region, providing another free tool to support businesses seeking staff.

Jobseekers can give the thumbs up to tourism and hospitality job vacancies in Greater Geelong, The Bellarine, Great Ocean Road, and Grampians regions.

In the week since its launch, there are already more than 40 jobs advertised on the Tourism Jobs Bank app, ranging from front-of-house hospitality staff and cleaners through to hotel management positions.

Extra workers are needed every summer across the four regions to help the tourism industry service the influx of visitors, and the app is intended to help jobseekers find their perfect holiday gig and fill essential tourism jobs ahead of the peak season.

It is the latest initiative of the Tourism Jobs Bank, which was launched in October 2021 to help the region’s tourism and hospitality businesses find skilled staff and offer training through regional organisations to ensure staff have a range of skills and can support businesses with payroll and staff management systems.

“Attracting workers is the biggest challenge facing tourism operators at the moment, and we hope this app and integrated marketing campaign assists in some way to help support businesses recruiting in the lead up to summer,” Great Ocean Road Regional Tourism general manager Liz Price said.

An integrated marketing campaign has been launched to promote the breadth and depth of jobs available and helping these regions stand out in a competitive marketplace.

Young people, older workers and returning working holiday makers are key audiences being encouraged to consider working in this part of the state this summer.

“The Tourism Jobs Bank campaign is helping spread the word that from Greater Geelong to Portland and up to Halls Gap is a truly special corner of the globe to live, work, and play in,” Tourism Greater Geelong and The Bellarine acting executive director Tracy Carter said.

“If you’re looking for work, download the app, upload your skills and details and give a ‘thumbs up’ for the businesses you’d like to work for.”

Great Ocean Road Regional Tourism, Tourism Greater Geelong and The Bellarine, and the Department of Jobs Precincts and Regions have partnered to deliver this program.

The Tourism Jobs Bank app is available to download on Android and iPhone devices.
