Townhouse development mooted for prime street
ANOTHER house block at The Parade, Ocean Grove would be converted into upmarket townhouses under plans submitted to the City of Greater Geelong.
Developers have lodged a permit application to build two townhouses at 155 The Parade with the project expected to cost $3 million.
The 814sqm site would become home to two four-bedroom, two-storey residences under the proposal.
An existing two-storey weatherboard house would be knocked down to make way for the new development.
Planners argued that the proposal fit council planning objectives for the area, which aimed to increase housing diversity in areas close to key services.
“The proposal provides for an infill housing opportunity within the settlement boundary of Ocean Grove.
“The proposal will allow for a more diverse housing opportunity within the settlement boundary.
“The additional dwellings and lot will allow for redevelopment of currently underutilised urban land to be further developed in the future providing diverse housing options within Ocean Grove.
“The proposal will provide for additional lots and housing in an area that has convenient access to physical and social infrastructure.”
Planning documents also said that The Parade’s attraction as a development site for similar builds had created an area with “no particular architectural style”, meaning its project would not look out of place.
“Multiple two lot subdivisions, including both the adjoining properties, are designed as double storey duplexes with direct street frontage.”
The city is advertising the plans for public submission until Wednesday (July 19).
