Toys aplenty as library in Port reopens

March 4, 2021 BY

Ann, right, and Gabrielle are excited about the Portarlington Toy Library reopening this month.

THE Portarlington Toy Library will reopen this month with more than 200 items available for borrowing.

After being in a hiatus for a few years, coordinators Gabrielle and Ann are excited to see this valuable resource for children and families reopen to the community.

Ann has been busy during the past few months checking all toys and adding many more, while Gabrielle will spend time promoting the library locally and online in the coming weeks for the grand re-opening on Tuesday, March 16.

“We have over 200 items for borrowing and they provide a range of learning opportunities for play and learning,” Gabrielle said.

“These include physical development, language and communication, expressive and dramatic play and social and emotional wellbeing.

“We provide toys mainly for preschool (0-6 years) but do have some items for older school aged children and even a game or two which caters for the whole family.”

The Portarlington Toy Library is located within the Portarlington Preschool space in Newcombe Street (enter same gate as the preschool) and will operate on a drop-in basis.

Opening times at present will be a Tuesday and Thursday between 9.15am and 10.15am during school terms.

Membership forms will be available and payment is acceptable on the day. Membership costs are $10 a term and $35 for a year.

“We encourage grandparents and local clubs to join too,” Gabrielle said.
