Trung’s next swing at cancer
PORTARLINGTON Golf Club member and Portarlington resident Trung Troung is again teeing off on cancer for this year’s Cancer Council The Longest Day Fundraiser.
Mr Truong, an artist and the owner of Fat Fox Art Gallery, will complete 72 holes in one playing session at his local club on December 18, marking his fourth year of raising funds for cancer research.
“It’s been a rather quiet year, but I think people are fully enjoying life right now having recovered from COVID-19,” Mr Trung said.
“I’m really looking forward to this year’s fundraiser though and the best part is, members from Portarlington Golf Club have offered to play one, two, three, even four rounds with me on the day, so I’ve got a wonderful team backing me up for 2023.”
The Longest Day, a Cancer Council initiative, challenges golfers and non-golfers to test their skill, strength and stamina by completing 72 holes of golf in a single day.
All of this is done while raising vital funds for Cancer Council’s research, prevention, and support services.
The official date is of The Longest Day is December 11, but Mr Truong will conduct his fundraising day a week later.
Mr Truong has raised more than $11,000 over three years of fundraising for Cancer Council and will aim for $4,000 in fundraising this year alongside registered teammate and fellow member Darren Hellmann.
Mr Truong says his experience losing loved ones to cancer can encourage residents to help get behind his causing, losing both a brother and his father to the disease.
“Any funds donated are greatly appreciated.
“I fully understand it’s a tough time at the moment with the rising cost of living, but if anyone can spare anything they can to help me achieve my goal would be amazing.
Together, let’s tee off for a cancer-free future.”
Mr Truong will conduct his 18-hole rounds at approximately 6am, 9am, 12pm, and 3pm.
