Builder starts upgrade of Newcomb Secondary College

November 5, 2020 BY

Work has started on the upgrade at the college.

A BUILDER has been appointed for the $6 million upgrade at Newcomb Secondary College.

Last month, Bellarine MP Lisa Neville and Geelong MP Christine Couzens announced Allmore Constructions Pty Ltd would carry out the upgrade, which will refurbish the college’s A Block including music spaces, staff areas and general purpose classrooms.

Unused and underused spaces will be transformed into science and technology spaces.

The existing woodworking and bike repair shop in Building J will be refurbished to create flexible spaces, with new system technology and maker spaces.

Street frontage will be updated by adding perforated metal cladding.

Work is expected to be completed in 2022.

“This is great news for the current and future students at Newcomb Secondary College, including of course the growing community of Leopold,” Ms Neville said.

“This school will provide A Grade facilities for students for many years to come”.

Ms Couzens said the upgrades were part of the school building boom happening right across Victoria.

“Upgrading Newcomb Secondary College will give local students access to great classrooms and facilities – because you can’t deliver a first-rate education in second-rate classrooms.”

The Andrews Government says 100 new schools will open by 2026 through its schools building boom, with the $7.2 billion investment to deliver more than 1,460 school upgrades and supporting more than 7,500 construction jobs.
