THE road on Elgin Street in Drysdale will be sealed following strong community support for upgrading the existing gravel surface.

Last week, the City of Greater Geelong Council approved a Special Rate and Charge scheme to co-fund the new project.

SRC schemes are co-funding arrangements in which council partners with property owners to deliver infrastructure upgrades – such as road sealing, footpaths, and drainage.

Elgin Street joins Newcombe Street, Station Street, Bridge Road, Duke Street and others in being financed through the SRC scheme.

Deputy chair of the city services, capital works, parks and gardens portfolio Chris Burson said there was a comprehensive consultation period with residents.

“Residents of Elgin Street were very clear that the gravel road wasn’t working for them.

“This upgrade will address dust, mud and stone scatter and generally make the street safer and more pleasant for everyone.”

Cr Rowan Story AM, RFD said the road upgrade will benefit 40 properties.

“Using an SRC means the works will be delivered efficiently,” Cr Story said. Forty properties will directly benefit from this upgrade, and we’re pleased to move forward with the community’s support.”
