Urgent sea wall repairs to start

October 15, 2021 BY

Urgent repairs are required to ensure the sea wall at Point Lonsdale remains safe.

URGENT work is being planned to repair a section of the sea wall on the Point Lonsdale foreshore, following a routine inspection identified damage from storm surges.

The section of wall, extending for 80-metres along the Point Lonsdale foreshore, has been impacted by severe storm events creating large waves which have loosened the mortar and eroded the wall in recent years.

The damage does not pose an immediate threat to public safety, however the Borough of Queenscliffe, with funding support from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, will be reconstructing and renewing the affected area to maintain the wall’s integrity and ensure it remains safe for public use.

Queenscliffe mayor Ross Ebbels has thanked residents for their patience while the works are underway.

“The safety of our community is council’s highest priority, and I want to thank residents for their patience while we complete urgent repair works on the Point Lonsdale sea wall,” Cr Ebbels said.

Works are expected to begin as soon as possible and reconstruction will be completed on small segments of the sea wall at a time to minimise disruption, allowing pedestrians to continue to access the beach and foreshore.

Visitors to the foreshore area must obey signs or direction from workers on site, and avoid areas closed to public access.
