Veterans’ families have a day out

THE Geelong and Melbourne branches of Legacy have supported a free day out on the Geelong Waterfront for the veterans of Australia’s armed services and their families.

Organised by Victorian Veteran Family Services (VVFS) at Steampacket Gardens on Sunday, the Family Fun Day featured free children’s entertainment, a sausage sizzle and live music, as well as several stalls set up by ex-service organisations to provide information about thier services to veterans.

Clubs and groups represented on the day included the Geelong and District TPI Club, Geelong Legacy, Melbourne Legacy, Geelong RSL, Geelong Vietnam Veterans, Invictus Australia, Blackrole K9, Military Brotherhood Military Motorcycle Club, Open Arms, Partners of Veterans Association of Australia (Victoria Branch), Soldier On Australia, Walking Off The War Within, Defence And Veterans Legal Service, Defence Force Welfare Association, Defence Health, the federal Department of Veterans’ Affairs and Geelong Adventure Specialists.

The free event was an opportunity for veterans and their families to learn about the services available to them.

VVFS is a service jointly funded by the Victorian government and Melbourne Legacy to provide support to families of veterans during the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.
