Vic Open returns to the Bellarine
THE Vic Open will return to Barwon Heads for a 12th year.
Bellarine MP Alison Marchant visited 13th Beach Golf Links last week to confirm the renowned golf course would once again host, over the four-day tournament, some of the world’s best golfers.
“The Vic Open continues to be a huge drawcard for the Bellarine region, with visitors able to witness world-class golf and experience the unique hospitality and breathtaking scenery of the area,” she said.
The event will begin with clinics, before the pro-am kicks off on February 5 and concludes on February 9, with both men and women competing alongside each other for equal prize money.
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos said the return of the Vic Open to 13th Beach highlighted Victoria’s ability to deliver world-class sporting events that build lasting legacies for local communities.
“Events like the Vic Open not only provide thrilling experiences for fans but they drive tourism and support jobs across the Bellarine Peninsula.”
The Vic Open titles will be staged simultaneously over 72-holes stroke play, and this year’s event will see the fields play across both Beach Golf Links’ Beach and Creek courses during the opening two rounds.
After the opening 36-holes, a ‘cut’ will see only the qualifying men’s and women’s players progress to the third and final rounds, to be held on Beach course.
Next year’s tournament will also include the Victorian Inclusive Championship for golfers with disabilities.
Golf Australia chief executive James Sutherland said the organisation was thrilled to see the Vic Open continue its tradition of gender equity and inclusion.
“The tournament adds to an incredible summer of golf for our athletes, which includes the upcoming ISPS Handa Australian Open from 28 November to 1 December 2024 at Kingston Heath and Victoria golf clubs,” he said.
The Vic Open is supported through Visit Victoria and the state government’s Regional Event Fund.
A major driver of Victoria’s tourism industry, golf annually contributes about $1 billion to the local economy and supports almost 7,000 jobs.
