VIEW club’s Mother’s Day event raises thousands
MORE than 100 women in Point Lonsdale have strutted their stuff to raise funds for school children struggling to access the tools to further their education.
Point Lonsdale’s VIEW (Voice, Interests and Education of Women) Club hosted their annual Mothers’ Day Luncheon and Fashion Parade at the Terindah Estate Winery.
More than 130 women from the Bellarine Peninsula area attended the major fundraiser for ‘The Smith Family’.
“It was a superb afternoon of fun, fashion, good food and friendship, which had the wonderful focus of raising money for The Smith Family and their ‘Learning for Life’ program,” club secretary Jo St. Clair said.
The event raised over $2,000 for the ‘Learning for Life’ program, which provides financial assistance to disadvantaged students for school supplies.
Supplies for students include electronic device support, tutoring and mentoring programs, career advice and a Smith Family partnership coordinator who supports a student’s specific needs.
Karen, from Portarlington’s ‘Kouture by the Sea’, coordinated the outfits worn by the event’s fashion models, all of whom were members of the Point Lonsdale VIEW Club. Eyewear for the event was supplied by ‘Eyeware on Pako’.
Point Lonsdale VIEW club supports 13 students on their educational journey by backing the principle a child’s education will help to break the cycle of disadvantage.
Over 1,550 students are supported in their educational aspirations through monies raised by VIEW members.
“Our club is the perfect way for women to meet other women,” Ms St Clair added.
“Making new friends, being involved in fundraising, but it’s also about being a part of activity groups such as walking groups, book groups, there’s various activities for those with similar interests.
“There’s a lot of women out there on their own, and we provide a means of keeping local women connected – it’s also a lot of fun.”
The Club meets on the first Thursday of the month at 360Q from 10.30am for an 11.00am start. The club’s next meeting will be Thursday, June 1.
