Volunteers needed to power fundraising push
Barwon Health Foundation is calling out for volunteers to get involved the feel-good volunteering opportunities that are part of its annual Giving Weekend.
The June 23 and June 24 event raises money for Barwon Health, the largest health service in the region.
The Barwon Health Foundation provides funding for a range of projects and initiatives, including patient care, research, education and equipment, and in the past year the Foundation has raised more than $10 million, which has helped to make a difference thousands of people in the Geelong region.
Barwon Health Foundation Executive Director Zoe Waters says the more volunteers, the bigger the fundraising result for our health service.
“People power is everything when it comes to our annual Giving Weekend – one hour of tin shaking can raise $700 so it’s an impactful, rewarding way for individuals or groups to give back,” Ms Waters said.
“There’s not a person in our region who won’t be touched by the work of Barwon Health in some way throughout their lifetime – donating an hour or two of your time helps to ensure that when that time comes, the best possible comfort and care is available.”
Giving Weekend is the much-anticipated conclusion to Barwon Health Foundation’s four week Giving Month appeal which is the biggest on its calendar, uniting individuals, businesses and community groups to work towards a common goal.
Local businesses Café Go, The Fresh Food Merchant, Natural Supply Co and Community Care Chemist will show their support by donating a portion of their sales from June 23-25 to the cause and barbeques at Bunnings stores in Waurn Ponds, North Geelong and Torquay will also form part of the fundraising.
