“We will remember them”: Ocean Grove commemorates Anzac Day
A SILENCE of commemoration fell over Ocean Grove on Tuesday morning as residents and community members gathered at Ocean Grove Park to pay their respects to fallen members of the armed services.
Ocean Grove Barwon Heads RSL representatives led Anzac Day proceedings earlier this week, holding a 6am dawn service and 10am Morning Service at The “Ocean Grove Park” Cenotaph, the latter of which followed the Ocean Grove March that began at 9.45am.
The dawn service included a piper and bugler, while tea and a light breakfast was provided at old fire station building, at the corner of Hodgson Street and The Avenue at the conclusion of the service, made possible by the Rotary Club of Ocean Grove and the RSL members.
Later in the morning, the march was accompanied by Geelong RSL Pipes and Drums.
The subsequent morning service was led by the Ocean Grove Barwon Heads RSL Sub-branch vice-president John Dickinson, and included a catafalque and flag party from the 8th/7th Battalion Alpha Company and members of the Geelong Concert Band.
The RSL vice president along with federal, state and local government representatives and other local dignitaries led the laying of wreaths.
