RIDERS will have to wait a little longer to test out the Ocean Grove District Ride Centre, with the facility’s opening delayed from mid-June until August.
The City of Greater Geelong said challenging weather conditions had slowed work on the project and more time was needed to “get it right”.
“When designing and delivering projects like this, community safety is our number one priority,” the city’s executive director of city infrastructure James Stirton said.
“We understand many members of the community are looking forward to this project, which we now expect to open during August.”
Located in Kingston Park, the facility was originally expected to open in June.
The project has been several years in the making and follows sustained demand from local riders for a dedicated facility.
The project, which has been described as one of the best facilities of its kind in Australia, is being delivered by mountain bike trail design and construction company World Trail.
It will feature a network of pump tracks, jumps and flowing trail lines designed to cater for riders of all ages and skill levels, from beginners through to experienced users.
The City of Greater Geelong has already invested more than $3.5m in the project.
