PERSISTENT rain and chilly winds made for a tough day on the Portarlington foreshore on Sunday, but the Hooked on Bellarine Festival still managed to reel in some determined visitors.

Although conditions forced an early finish, visitors enjoyed a taste of the region’s fishing and seafood culture through hands-on clinics, live demonstrations and local produce tastings.

Victorian Fisheries Authority events and engagement manager Belinda Yim said it was great to see people turning out despite the rain.

“It was great to see families rug up, grab an umbrella and enjoy the festivities at Hooked on Bellarine,” she said.

“While the weather cut things short, those who braved the rain had a great time celebrating all things fishing.”

Younger participants took the opportunity to wet a line in fishing clinics run by Fishcare Victoria, while fishing simulators, science displays and aquaculture tastings drew plenty of interest.

“Seafood paella with local mussel provided a delicious warming lunch for many and cooking demonstrations were a hit too,” Yim added.

She thanked everyone who attended and said organisers were already looking forward to returning in 2026.
