THE new playground in Portarlington’s W.G. Little Reserve is officially open.

It sees the replacement of the infrastructure that has been in the location for nearly 25 years.

The playground’s design has been shaped by input from Portarlington Primary School pupils.

The playground includes swings, rockers, spinners and a flying fox. It has been designed to accommodate children of different age groups.

It also features art installations and play sculptures designed to a coastal theme and a nearby adult fitness station.

The project, which celebrated its opening on Friday afternoon, was funded by the Bellarine Bayside Foreshore Committee of Management in partnership with the Portarlington and Drysdale Community Bank branches of the Bendigo Bank, the Portarlington-Drysdale Lions Club, the City of Greater Geelong, Portarlington Mussel Festival, the Port Arts Network and the National Celtic Festival.

Bellarine MP Lisa Neville said it would be a great asset to the community.

“Portarlington’s foreshore is a wonderful place, enjoyed by both locals and visitors alike, and this beautiful new playground will only add to this enjoyment, especially for young families with kids.”

She said she appreciated all the community had done to make the playground come to fruition.

“I thank the Portarlington Primary School students for their experienced input and all other local community organisations for their funding.”
