Workplaces invited to volunteer at Geelong Mums
GEELONG Mums is inviting the region’s businesses to participate in its workplace volunteering program.
The workplace volunteering program at the local not-for-profit organisation – the only program of its kind in the region – not only enables workplaces to learn more about the vital role Geelong Mums plays in assisting disadvantaged families, but also offers businesses the opportunity for their staff to come together as a team and work collaboratively.
Geelong Mums general manager Julia Roache is looking forward to showcasing the work of Geelong Mums and welcoming other businesses to be part of what they do.
“Workplace volunteering offers businesses the opportunity to get out of the office and come together as a team,” Ms Roache said.
“After a year of working apart due to COVID restrictions, what a great opportunity for small and larger organisations to invest in re-engaging their staff as a united group, in a really meaningful way.”
A key element of the program is the opportunity for staff to bond with their work colleagues in a purposeful way, to learn more about each other, and understand more about their community.
“While spending the day at Geelong Mums, workplace teams provide hands on help, cleaning, sorting and packing donations so that we can get them out to families in need as quickly as possible,” Ms Roache said.
“Workplace teams can see how their contribution has an immediate impact.
“It is not unusual for a workplace volunteer to spend the morning cleaning and preparing an item such as a highchair or pram and then see that item picked up by a social worker in the afternoon, to be delivered to a family they are supporting.”
In 2020, 43 per cent of children living in poverty in Geelong were supported by Geelong Mums.
