Works start on Leopold Memorial Reserve precinct redevelopment
CONSTRUCTION is officially under way on the Leopold Memorial Reserve precinct redevelopment.
Local contractors have taken on the federal government’s $3.25 million three-stage upgrade.
As part of the first stage, car park improvements will be installed between the Leopold Football Netball Club and the Leopold Tennis Club, improving safety and accessibility.
The works will also include a netball half-court, providing a new warm-up space for netballers and an active area for the local Scouts group.
As part of future upgrades, a female-friendly change facility and toilet with storage area will also be included, replacing an outdated toilet block.
To mark the milestone representatives from the Leopold Lions Club, Tennis Club and Football Netball club joined Corangamite Labor federal member Libby Coker at the precinct.
“Leopold Memorial Reserve is the heart of this community, it’s a place that brings everyone together which is why this upgrade is so important,” Ms Coker said.
“I’d like to thank the club representatives and local groups who have advocated tirelessly for these upgrades – this is a great outcome for the Leopold community.”
Funding was committed to the project by the Albanese Government before the 2022 federal election, partnering with the City of Greater Geelong to deliver the works.
