Workshop to help power up your local garden
BELLARINE Landcare Group will host a hands-on workshop next weekend to give locals all the secrets to creating a great compost in their garden or farm.
The December 2 event is at the Birdland Organic Produce farm in Drysdale, and attendees will learn about the full compost cycle by laboratory technician and compost expert Declan Ramsay-Malone.
The workshop will focus on both the creation of biologically active thermophilic compost and compost extract, a valuable liquid amendment.
Mr Ramsay-Malone will help attendees build a compost pile and windrow from scratch and discuss how each input in a compost feeds different organisms of the soil food web.
Bellarine Landcare Group facilitator Sophie Small said the session would provide plenty of great tips for their garden or farm.
“This workshop is an opportunity for people to learn more about how vital soil really is!
“It supports life on the planet and helps us to grow produce.
“We are really excited to have Declan taking everyone through it all.
“He’s super-enthusiastic and knowledgeable and has done training through Elaine Ingram’s Soil Food Web in America.
“Attendees will get to have look at both Declan’s recently created compost pile and have the ability to create their own.
“We invite locals to come along and learn how they can enhance their farm and garden this summer season.”
The workshop cost is $30. For more head to “Bellarine Landcare Group” on humantix.com
