World-class facility on our doorstep
SHELL Road in Ocean Grove will be a busy hub of action as Ryman Healthcare builds a new home for hundreds of residents at their latest village.
Ryman Healthcare acquired a planning permit for the village in April and preparations to begin groundworks are currently underway, with first residents likely to move into the village by the end of the year.
A Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony will be held at the site this month, with construction of the village expected to be completed in 2022, and be home to around 300 residents.
The Ocean Grove village will be on 4.7 hectares of land at 181-199 Shell Rd. It will comprise 83 single-storey 2-3 bedroom villas, 53 serviced apartments and 120 aged care rooms. It will include a bowling green, bar, café, cinema, indoor pool, gymnasium, hair and beauty salons, among other amenities.
Each village offers a combination of retirement living and aged care, including rest home, hospital and dementia-level care.
Construction of the site will create between 150 to 200 jobs with a focus on local trades and create 70 to 80 permanent jobs when the village is operational.
“This village will be an open and active part of the Ocean Grove community. For us, that begins before we even break ground,” Ryman’s Victorian construction manager Martyn Osborn said.
“We’re actively seeking out local tradies, contractors and suppliers so we can help give the local economy a real shot in the arm.
“A lot of people are doing it tough at the moment, so hopefully we can provide some opportunities for people who’ve been hit hard by the economic downturn.
“And we’re not just talking about the short term. This retirement community will create about 70-80 permanent local jobs when it’s open, and pump lots of money into local businesses and service providers for decades to come.”
Mr Osborn said the village would provide local residents with a world-class retirement option “on their doorstep”, allowing residents to remain part of the community they love.
“That gives people real peace of mind. Ocean Grove is a special community and retirees want to stay close to the family, friends and social networks they’ve built up over decades.
“This village will give them that option of continuing to enjoy the lifestyle they love without having to worry about whether they’ll be able to access the health services they might need.”
