Yoga event to raise funds for drought relief

September 19, 2018 BY

Thaedra Frangos will be one of the featured yogis at the fundraising yoga event.

SURF Coast Kundalini Yoga teacher Susie Seale will be holding a fundraising yoga session for drought relief in Torquay next week.

All proceeds from “We Are One But We Are Many” will be donated to Aussie Helpers – a charity set up to help farmers and their families during times of distress.

“My vision is to pack the studio at 16 Price Street to capacity to raise as much financial assistance as is humanly possible on a yoga mat for drought relief,” Ms Seale said.

“I know we all struggle to imagine the horror that the children of farming families must be experiencing as they watch their animals suffer.

“Neither can I comprehend the utter desperation of farming families as they face the relentless, insurmountable hardship foisted upon them by the most vicious drought in our country’s history.

“The idea of a community yoga class to raise money for drought relief came after weeks of watching story after tragic story about the plight of our drought-affected farmers. Yet it is difficult to make an impact alone.”

Ms Seale said she thought long and hard about a title for the event, eventually settling on “We are one but we are many” (from the 1987 song “I Am Australian”).

“The Surf Coast community is like no other I have ever been a part of. My dream is that we can join together for a yoga class filled with power and passion, and love and gratitude for one another, and ‘bring it’ to reach our collective dream donation goal.

“We may even close with a little kundalini rain dance to gong and hand drums accompaniment lovingly donated by Bianca Aviaz.”

Tiz Robinson will do a Sounds of Freedom sound shower, and local Wemba Wemba woman and yoga instructor Thaedra Frangos will perform a sacred earth healing Wayapa Wuurrk meditation to close the morning.

Anyone may take part, no prior yoga experience is necessary, but the studio limit will be set at 50 participants.

“We Are One But We Are Many” will be held at 16 Price Street, Torquay on September 29 from 9-10.30am. Entry is $20 per head. To book, head to eventbrite.com.au and search “WE ARE ONE BUT WE ARE MANY”.
