Stars brave ice for Geelong MND fight
A huge crowd gathered for the fourth-annual Geelong Big Freeze at St Mary’s Anthony Costa Oval on Sunday (June 1) to raise vital funds for motor neuron disease (MND) research.
Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj, former Australian Diamonds netballer Caitlin Thwaites and Geelong premiership player Zach Tuohy were among the famous faces to brave the icy water.
On Monday, organiser Graeme Reid was thrilled to reveal the event was on track to raise about $102,000 and beat its goal of $100,000.
The sliding action took place before the top-of-the-table clash between St Joseph’s and St Mary’s in the GFL seniors.
Joeys won a cracker 16.15 (111) to 16.10 (106) to remain unbeaten.
St Joseph’s also got the chocolates in the A grade netball, winning 48-28 over the Saints.
